Job description

An acute care organization in Michigan's Upper Peninsula is seeking an experienced Registered Nurse to lead its Obstetrics department. Reporting to the Chief Nursing Officer, the OB Director will provide clinical and operational leadership for a team focused on safe, high-quality, family-centered maternal and newborn care.

This position combines hands-on clinical expertise with department leadership, quality improvement, staff development, regulatory oversight, and day-to-day operational management.

Schedule

  • Full-time, 1.0 FTE, 80 hours per pay period.
  • Salary/exempt position.
  • Monday-Friday, 8-hour day shifts.
  • Travel is not required.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate nursing care for obstetric patients using established nursing standards and the nursing process.
  • Oversee the delivery of Labor and Delivery services while supporting safe, patient-centered maternal and newborn care.
  • Identify clinical and operational challenges and implement effective solutions.
  • Lead performance improvement activities and support initiatives designed to strengthen patient safety, quality, and clinical outcomes.
  • Serve as a clinical and operational resource for nursing staff and other healthcare professionals.
  • Promote effective patient flow and adherence to clinical standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Monitor departmental compliance with accreditation, legal, regulatory, and Joint Commission requirements.
  • Coordinate staffing schedules and department workforce needs.
  • Support employee education, professional development, coaching, and performance evaluations.
  • Coordinate patient and family education, with particular emphasis on Labor and Delivery.
  • Foster productive working relationships among nursing staff, providers, and hospital leadership.
  • Support recruitment, retention, and development of OB nursing professionals.
  • Perform additional leadership and clinical responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements

  • Associate's Degree in Nursing from an accredited nursing program.
  • Current Michigan Registered Nurse license.
  • Labor and Delivery nursing experience.
  • Current BLS-HCP certification.
  • Annual influenza vaccination or approved declination as required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing.
  • Four years of Labor and Delivery experience.
  • Two years of healthcare leadership experience.
  • NRP certification.
  • AWHONN Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) credential/training.
  • AWHONN Perinatal Orientation and Education Program (POEP) training.
  • STABLE certification.
  • NRP, AWHONN-EFM, AWHONN-POEP, and STABLE credentials should be current or obtained within one year where applicable.
