The Face-to-Face Interview
Before the interview, prepare your team, avoid interruptions, and focus on evaluating the candidate while representing the opportunity clearly and professionally.
Before a face-to-face interview, arrange for two or three managers or trusted team members to briefly meet the candidate and provide them with the candidate's resume, relevant discussion topics, and context. Strong candidates may be employed and interviewing elsewhere, so the interview should both assess qualifications and create a positive impression. Begin with a relaxed tone, review the company's history, goals, opportunity, and reason for the opening, then ask focused questions based on the candidate's resume. Useful topics include management style, accomplishments, reasons for leaving previous employers, fit with the role, impressions of current operations, career goals, and what they value most in their work. Avoid compensation discussions until the team has gathered feedback and carefully considered an offer.
